Review for BrickSlider CE

Brickslider review from Chris Leckness (AximSite.com)

BrickSlider for Windows CE is an unique combinatorial mindgame. You need to clear the board from bricks using other bricks and additional artefacts like virus, bomb, vortex, etc. The rules are simple, but the game is very addictive...

Current version is 2.00. We have added to this version 100 levels, possibility to multiplayer game, records table, step by step tutorial, and many, many new features...

Introduction:
My wife saw this game listed in a magazine and she had to have it. I looked it up and decided that it looked like a fun game. Now I am a sucker for getting hooked on puzzle games, so I knew I shouldn’t but I did anyhow. I tested this game on her Axim ( Basic 300mhz from a 128 Sandisk SD card ). While I was busy with other site issues, she put the game through its paces. She reported that she completed 104 levels. She told me what she like and disliked and I proceeded to play this game myself. Thanks to Ballshooter Games for providing us the game to review.

Installation:
Installing the game was a snap. Clicked on the installation file and poof, we were ready in 30 seconds. This game is under 1 megabyte in total size so it won’t send you searching for something to delete. I installed it to my wifes 128MB SD card and it runs from the card fast and problem free. After installing the game, you enter your registration code by going into the "Help" section of the game, then you have to restart the game to continue.

Gameplay:
The main menu of this game(pictured above) provides you with the following choices: to play a game, set options, view high scores, view help, or exit the game. The options(pictured below are very simple and allow you to somewhat customize your gamplay. The help file is very in depth and will have you understanding the gameplay in minutes. This game is really not that hard to figure out anyhow.

The object of the game is to clear out the blocks in the center by “sliding” blocks from the outer walls to the middle. The 3 by 10 outerwall contain colored blocks that can only be moved if an arrow is on the block. As you can see in the image below, if the right color combo does not occur the blocks build up in the middle and the blocks on the 4 outer walls refill with a new block. In the middle you must have 3 same colored blocks line up to “explode” the blocks, thus clearing the way a bit. Basicly, like games such as Tetris, you are at the mercy of the random colors. You are not racing the clock, so you can think about future moves also.

Conclusion:
The game is very creative and provides hours of enjoyment. The game is small in size and requires very little system resources. It has fair graphics and no music. There are sounds of the bricks hitting and “exploding” though. For the price, there are other great games that surpass this game, but overall the game is worth it if you enjoy challenging puzzle games. Hours of enjoyment and frustration can be spent playing Brickslider.

Pros:

  • Original Game Play
  • A great Challenge

Cons:

  • Can get boring after so many levels
